When you are learning English, you find it not clever to put an English sentence, word for word, into your own language. Take the sentence “How do you do?” as an example. If you look up each word in the dictionary, one at a time, what is your translation? It must be a wrong sentence I your own language.

Language do not just have different sounds, they are different in many ways. It’s important to master(掌握) the rules(规则) for word order in the study of English, too. If the sentences put words in a wrong order, the listeners can’t understand the speakers’ sentences easily. Sometimes when the order is changed, the meaning of the sentence doesn’t change. Let’s see the difference between the two pairs of sentences.

“She only likes apples.” “Only she likes apples.”

“I’ve seen the film already.” “I have already seen the film.”

Every day people throw away mountains of(大量的)rubbish.Have you thought where it all goes and what happens to it?

Most of it goes into "landfills".We do not kown exactly where all these landfills are.And in fact, they are in most of our suburbs, close to where we live.

It may be hard to believe, but most of the cities in China are surrounded by rubbish. But putting the rubbish in landfills takes up too much space.

Another way to get rid of rubbish is to burn it.But this pollutes the air around us.The third way is recycling. This is becoming more popular.Plus,it is much better for our environment.

Q:

2.The word "landfills" means (垃圾场).

3.Where we can find the landfills (in most of our suburbs).
